Shamanic Journey Group

Picture of drum.

Shamanism is based on the belief that all things have a spirit and that we are all connected. Through a form of meditation called journeying, we access spiritual information for our higher good. A steady drumbeat which mirrors the heartbeat of Mother Earth is the predominate tool used to facilitate this journey process. It helps one enter a trancelike state and opens us to receiving this information. Powerful healing happens when we sit in circle and create sacred space together.

Participants learn lower world and upper world journeying to strengthen their direct connection with the Divine. Many cultures use sound to help transport them on their journeys. In addition to drums, we use rattles and singing bowls.

For those who have taken the Journey/Drum classes, we will be meeting the first Friday each month beginning September 1, 2006.  Each gathering will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the community room. Bring a drum and/or rattle, an eye pillow, paper, pen, sacred cloth, candle, items for comfortable journeying such as pillow, blanket, cushion, and something for the center altar. The fee for participating is a love offering to the Unitarian Church for their generous use of space.

At this time the gatherings are designed specifically for those comfortable doing Shamanic journeying.  For those interested in learning how to do shamanic journeying, contact Meg at 563-332-9625. When there is enough interest we will begin another series of classes

Sacred Sisterhood and Brotherhood Series in 2006 at the Unitarian Church

January 14 (north), February 4 (west), February 25 (south), March 25 (east), and April 29 (center)

The Sacred Sisterhood and Brotherhood Gatherings were created to provide small supportive circles where women and men experience rites of passage, initiation and ceremony. Using the Medicine Wheel directions as a foundation, each gathering provides a safe and sacred space for deep personal transformation and spiritual awakening. Participation in the Introduction to Shamanism or the Basic Core Shamanism class and receiving a Soul Retrieval is recommended in preparation for this series.

The dance around the sacred directions is invoked in a traditional clockwise manner at the first North gathering. The North is always a reunion of previous circles of Sisters and Brothers and a healing ceremony with the ancestors. The North is also a time of commitment to one’s spiritual path and a time of birthing through the mystical mirror. It begins the five month journey by opening a spiritual door and leaving it open as the group moves to the West, to die and be reborn. The South involves connecting with wholeness, purpose and passion. In the East we reclaim a vision of innocence, awe and wonder. We rotate as the earth does around the sun. Reversing the clock of what has been familiar to unwind to a core of authentic self in the Center. At the Center gathering we each send forth a Prayer Arrow that plants a personal intention to manifest over time.

Enrollment is limited to 10 for each, the brotherhood and the sisterhood. Should you be interested in learning more about either of these sacred circles contact Meg Bolich @ 563-332-9625 or BlueJBolich@aol.com.
