You are hereShamanism

Shamanism is based on the belief that all things have a spirit and that we are all connected. Through a form of meditation called journeying, we access spiritual information for our higher good. A steady drumbeat which mirrors the heartbeat of Mother Earth is the predominate tool used to facilitate this journey process. It helps one enter a trancelike state and opens us to receiving this information. Powerful healing happens when we sit in circle and create sacred space together.
Participants learn lower world and upper world journeying to strengthen their direct connection with the Divine. Many cultures use sound to help transport them on their journeys. In addition to drums, we use rattles and singing bowls.

For those who have taken the Journey/Drum classes, we will be meeting the first Friday each month beginning September 1, 2006.  Each gathering will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the community room. Bring a drum and/or rattle, an eye pillow, paper, pen, sacred cloth, candle, items for comfortable journeying such as pillow, blanket, cushion, and something for the center altar. The fee for participating is a love offering to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad Cities for their generous use of space.

At this time the gatherings are designed specifically for those comfortable doing Shamanic journeying.  For those interested in learning how to do shamanic journeying, contact Meg at 563-332-9625. When there is enough interest we will begin another series of classes.
