The Science of Happiness
A talk by Lars Rehnberg
Each of us has a theory on happiness. Our ideas come from religion, from family, and hopefully from personal experience.... But what about science? Do we have any hard evidence about happiness? We spend much of our lives pursuing it, but what do we really know about this elusive elixir? Is there a predictable way to experience it each day?
This talk will explore the emerging discipline of happiness theory. Specifically, it will address four major concepts: Solomon's Opponent-Process Theory, Csikszentmihalyi's theory of Flow, Seligman's new Positive Psychology, and Dan Buettner's Blue Zones.
Although we will be discussing hard science, we'll keep the equations out of it and focus on material relevant to everyday living.

No Forum until the Sunday after Labor Day.

* What is a Welcoming Congregation?
The Unitarian Church welcomes all people, including gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) persons. As a "Welcoming Congregation" the church offers GLBT persons a religious home free of discrimination and supports GLBT activities in the community including Quad Citians Affirming Diversity, an early project of the church.
